NCAA Tourney: A star is born

First and foremost, this has been a great tournament. There were a lot of upsets but in the end, all number 1 seeds survived to the final 4. I cannot remember the last time that this has happened.

This has truly been a memorable tournament with great individual and team play. I firmly believe the best player in the entire tournament was Stephon Curry. He had an excellent run. His shooting range is unreal. He only needs a small seam to launch his shot. Not only is he a shooter but he can create as well. He seems to be a good kid who comes from a nice background.

He's truly been the talk of the tournament. Who would have ever thought that Davidson would be an elite 8 team. No one really. Except maybe 1 person....Stephon Curry. Congrats.

NIT: College Basketball

Congrats to the Ohio St Buckeyes. After being jobbed by the NCAA, The Buckeyes went out and took care of business in the NIT tournament. They dominated every game from start to finish. It was a complete cake walk. This is what happens when you put an NCAA team into the same field as NIT teams. It's no fair. Hopefully, next year OSU won't be a bubble team. This was a rebuilding season for them but they still managed to have a great season.

So, great season OSU. I'm really happy that Jamar Butler ends his OSU career on a positive note. I truly believe he has what it takes to succeed at that next level but he's been drastically overlooked his entire career. He's what every coach wants and needs in a PG. He's a leader in every aspect. He leads by example. He led his team to the NIT Championship.

NBA: Eastern Conference Vs. Western Conference

Eastern Conference or Western Conference? Which is better? This is a highly debatable topic. I will try to break it down as best as I can.

First and foremost this has been an exciting NBA season. Lebron James is having an outstanding season. Kobe is carrying the Lakers. These are the usual suspects. However, the league has a new star on the rise, Chris Paul. He's worthy of plenty MVP votes this season as well.

Back to the topic at hand. Many NBA observers believe that the Western Conference is superior to the Eastern Conference. From top to bottom the Western Conference looks to be more competitive. There's a chance that a team with 50 wins won't make the playoffs this season. What a pity! In the East there are a few good teams capable of winning it all but the bottom of the East is very weak. There's a good chance that a team with a record below .500 will make the playoffs.

Boston, Detroit, Orlando and Cleveland are the best teams in the East. If any of these teams were in a playoff series with the 7th and 8th seed teams in the West could anyone guarantee a victory for these teams. Is Boston, Detroit, Orlando and Cleveland better than the Mavs or Nuggets? Would the top 4 teams in the east win a playoff series against either of those two teams? It's unknown but the point is that the western conference is so strong that their bottom teams would much up pretty well against the top seeded teams in the east.

This answer may shock you but I would still say the difference between these two Conferences are not that far off. I would even lean towards the east being stronger. Boston has the best record in the entire league. They're led by 3 all stars. Lebron James is the leagues best player...put him in any series and anything can happen. Detroit is a major force as well...Orlando is probably the most overlooked team but yet may be the most complete team in the entire league. They can win a game in so many different ways. They present a problem at just about every position on the floor. These top four teams in the east are pretty darn good.

Which conference is actually better remains to be seen. However, I am leaning towards the East!

Brett Favre Retires!

After 17 seasons in the NFL, Brett Favre has decided to call it quits.

"He has had one of the greatest careers in the history of the National Football League, and he is able to walk away from the game on his own terms - not many players are able to do that," Packers general manager Ted Thompson said Tuesday.

This is a sad day for football fans. Brett has been a mainstay in Green Bay for several years. He has accomplished a lot both on and off the field. He's a role model for children. He was one of the games best quarterbacks.

I'm happy he was able to leave the game in good health and under his own terms. He went out as a winner.

Congrats on a great career Brett. Future Hall of Famer.

Baseball, Steroids and Race

I'm sure you all are aware of the very serious issue baseball is dealing with right now. There are many steroid allegations pending against several players. The most noticeable stars are Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Mark McGuire.

This is a very sensitive topic for me because I view it a little differently than most. I believe the attack on African American players has been more severe than any other race. Barry Bonds has been bashed in every possible way. He's received hate mail, taunting at just about every ballpark and bad media press.

I strongly feel as though "White America" did not want to see Bonds break the home run record, let's face it, they did not want to see Hank Aaron surpass Babe Ruth either. Many who insist that race is not an issue, try to point to the steroid allegations.

"This is something we, as African-American athletes, live with every day," Bonds said. "I don't need a headline that says, 'Bonds says there's racism in the game of baseball.' We all know it. It's just that some people don't want to admit it. They're going to play dumb like they don't know what the hell is going on." -Barry Bonds

I believe this statement is true. Why don't we ever hear of white baseball players receiving death threats prior to reaching some kind of milestone? Why is is always African Americans who receive these threats? America has a problem. A problem that has existed for hundreds of years. In the case of Bonds, the steroid issues just gave racists an outlet. Wake up America!

Congratulations Lebron James

Congratulations Lebron James. It has been a pleasure to watch you over the past 5 seasons. King James is the youngest player to ever reach 10,000 points surpassing Kobe Bryant.

Lebron can be thanked for many things. He gave hope to a dying sports town. He's taken the NBA under your wing. Mr. James has came a long way from the kid at SVSM High School in Akron, Ohio. Hopefully, your quest ends with multiple NBA championships.

Lebron you are an inspiration to an entire generation. That's quite a load to carry. However, if there was any man built for the task it is you. There is an anointment on your life. Everything you've accomplished is not a mistake. It is because you are worthy and deserving. Congrats Lebron.
