Eastern Conference or Western Conference? Which is better? This is a highly debatable topic. I will try to break it down as best as I can.
First and foremost this has been an exciting NBA season. Lebron James is having an outstanding season. Kobe is carrying the Lakers. These are the usual suspects. However, the league has a new star on the rise, Chris Paul. He's worthy of plenty MVP votes this season as well.
Back to the topic at hand. Many NBA observers believe that the Western Conference is superior to the Eastern Conference. From top to bottom the Western Conference looks to be more competitive. There's a chance that a team with 50 wins won't make the playoffs this season. What a pity! In the East there are a few good teams capable of winning it all but the bottom of the East is very weak. There's a good chance that a team with a record below .500 will make the playoffs.
Boston, Detroit, Orlando and Cleveland are the best teams in the East. If any of these teams were in a playoff series with the 7th and 8th seed teams in the West could anyone guarantee a victory for these teams. Is Boston, Detroit, Orlando and Cleveland better than the Mavs or Nuggets? Would the top 4 teams in the east win a playoff series against either of those two teams? It's unknown but the point is that the western conference is so strong that their bottom teams would much up pretty well against the top seeded teams in the east.
This answer may shock you but I would still say the difference between these two Conferences are not that far off. I would even lean towards the east being stronger. Boston has the best record in the entire league. They're led by 3 all stars. Lebron James is the leagues best player...put him in any series and anything can happen. Detroit is a major force as well...Orlando is probably the most overlooked team but yet may be the most complete team in the entire league. They can win a game in so many different ways. They present a problem at just about every position on the floor. These top four teams in the east are pretty darn good.
Which conference is actually better remains to be seen. However, I am leaning towards the East!
